Amerock Hinge Installation Made Easy!

If your cabinet doors are bumping into each other or are hanging unevenly, or if they aren’t closing properly or tightly, it might be time to purchase new hinges. We highly recommend purchasing new hinges from Amerock. Amerock cabinet hinges are easy to install and come in a variety of different finishes to match your preexisting cabinet décor. Amerock hardware has been producing quality cabinet hardware for over 80 years, so you can rely on the fact that your new hinges will last through many years of wear and tear.

  1. The first step is to determine which type of hinge your cabinets already have. There are basically two types of hinges on the market: European-style hinges and Butt or Frame cabinet hinges. European hinges snap into a cup on the cabinet door and then attach to a plate mounted inside the cabinet via a small screw. Frame cabinet hinges are screwed into both the cabinet door and to side of the cabinet wall and are much more popular in America as you might have guessed. Frame hinges are also a bit easier to install, although they aren’t easily adjusted once they are already mounted. It is probably best to purchase the type of hinge you already have, although if you’re starting from scratch, we recommend going with a frame hinge.

  2. Now that you’ve purchased the Amerock hinge of your choice, you can get started installing it. Starting at one end of your cabinetry, you should unscrew the hinges from the first door. Make sure that it doesn’t fall in the process. Once the hinges are removed, place them on the floor besides you.

  3. Use a matching wood putty or filler to fill in the holes on the cabinetry and the door to hide the old screw holes. Once the putty has dried, sand it down to smooth off the surface.

  4. Position one of your new Amerock hinges on the bottom side of the door and mark where the holes for the screws are. Repeat the same process on the top side of the door.

  5. Drill pilot holes for the screws, using the marks, while taking care not to drill through the door. Position the hinges, and screw the hinges to the door while holding the door steady on the ground.

  6. Now you’re ready to put the door back in place. Position it along the cabinet and have someone hold the door in place while you mark the holes for the screws on the corresponding cabinet wall. Remove the door and drill pilot holes. Reposition the door, lining up the hinges with the pilot holes and start screwing the door to the cabinet.

  7. Once your first door is properly hung, you can repeat the process for the rest of the cabinet doors. Make sure all the doors are hung evenly across your cabinetry using a level or by eye.
